EDUCATION AND TRAINING

In the area of education, our mission is to establish schools. We are building a school at Larbie to serve both the Djan and Larbie community. It is not just a school structure that we are building, we are fostering teamwork among folks in the community to standup together for what is right, we employ communal labor to sharpen skills, build talents, and inspire partnership for sustainable community development.

DALET believes that "education cannot wait". Education has a positive and statistically significant coefficient in the healthcare demand curve; education and training are critical for sustainable community development. Major long-term gains in development and wealth, according to Grossman are possible only if the entire population possesses a reasonable level of education.

Education introduces opportunities and transforms lives, and then creates an enabling environment where an increased healthy population, opportunities for entrepreneurship, and wealth abound requires the first thing that cannot wait, education and training.

We approach this challenging area with a beginner’s mindset: We understand our weaknesses and strengths, we cannot do it alone and we want you to join us. Let us collaborate and/or partner to make the dream of establishing a beautiful, clean, well-constructed community school a reality for the children in Larbie and Djan villages. And then we will walk together and assist more children together.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to achieve accessible schools and quality education for every child worldwide; an increased healthy population, where opportunities for entrepreneurship and wealth creation abound.

Our current priorities in this area are:

  • Building an accessible, quality, and inclusive school at Larbie to provide a learning conducive environment for preschool and basic education to prevent the harm of child labor and save children from poverty
  • Build a community library to provide a quiet, safe, and supportive learning environment for children to read, study, and complete their assignments.
  • Support rural entrepreneurship development through youth skill training, provide health screening, and promote healthy lifestyles for families and their children to thrive.
DALET has been working in Ghana since 2016 to support children, particularly releasing them from the harm of child labor and enrolling them in schools for the past 7 years

THE LARBIE COMMUNITY SCHOOL PROJECT

We are inviting you to assist us in completing our initial DALET School Project at Larbie in the Awutu-Senya West District of the Central Region of Ghana. The Larbie Community School: a 3-classroom block building project especially for the most marginalized children has been delayed and uncompleted due to the impact of the Corona virus pandemic on some members of our team, our grant writer, and a number of challenges we faced during the COVID-19 lockdown constrained our resources as a beginner organization. DALET believes in ‘’UBUNTU’’, and we want you to join us. We are stronger together than building it alone.

    We are a faith-based organization, God is at the center of the work we do, this is what the Gye Nyame symbol stands for in our official logo. We promise to use a holistic child development model that is relevant, innovative, culturally appropriate, and empowering to the community we serve. We are unique because 95% of team members are either teachers or facilitators.

    As professionally trained teachers, we have competencies and work experience in managing the classroom, operating a school, and bringing about social change that empowers marginalized communities.

    We deliberately place a sharper focus on empowering and including women to own, lead, and exercise power and agency in our key development projects so that they will uphold the mandate of the established school so their children can thrive.

    Our doors are always open to give to children from ALL backgrounds. That is what Dalet is all about. We open doors for children to protect them to be free from harm, provide their basic needs, including food, shelter, health care, clothing, skills training, prayer, education and, assist children to participate in decision-making that affect them. WHAT THE SPONSOR RECEIVES

*Note: Your donation will go directly to the Development Alliance for Literacy Education and Training (DALET), a Ghanaian nonprofit organization registered and licensed in Ghana. You may apply for a tax deduction. However, to avoid discrimination against certain children from different backgrounds, DALET delivers your financial aid to children who are most in need. After you have decided to sponsor a child, leave us a message, and we will get back to you with the details and/or profile of the child who has received your donation. Both your sponsored child and guardian will write a letter to you to show appreciation. Both donors and volunteers are allowed to visit the sponsored child and their guardians.

HEALTH, NUTRITION & SAFE SCHOOLS

In 2017, the DALET School Project team moved an ambitious step to bring all children of school going age, particularly those who lived in Djan, Larbie and Kwao Bonzie villages together to enable them to access free health screening in the Church of Pentecost at Larbie, a suburb of Kasoa in Central Region of Ghana. We provided medical assistance to over 110 children who were excluded from healthcare because of poverty including their guardians and parents; and we were motivated by the community leaders to help more children in every schools. Our focus was on our vision for all children as it is still the same: An increased healthy population of children.
AN INCREASED HEALTHY POPULATION OF CHILDREN

We have moved a step forward helping more children as beginners since 2017

To achieve a greater coherence and advance our ambitious objectives related to children affected by malnutrition, students suffering from ill-health conditions, or unprotected from harm and anything that can cause harm in the school environment; we have reinforced our commitment and scope to work and collaborate with government and private schools to bring healthcare, wellness, and safe school environments (HEAL-WELL-SSE) program to children and school staff in schools. Our team is made up of specialists in the emergency nursing profession, medical doctors, teaching staff, logistic and administrative staff – working together to achieve a common goal. Our humanitarian actions are guided by medical ethics, our values, and the principles of impartiality, independence, equity and neutrality. We are not working for-profit, we are helping schools and students to be healthier, safe, integrated, well-functioning persons in their school personality structure. We are DALET, a tzedakah faith-based organization.

Take action with us, let us raise awareness for all schools to be accessible, disability friendly, resourceful and conducive for teaching-learning activities. Because a peaceful, beautiful, safe, and clean school environment is vital component of a school’s ‘hidden curriculum’ to make education meaningful, easily accessible and useful to everyone regardless of their mental and physical disposition.

DALET is taking action to train school health office workers, house masters and teachers in prevention, and providing personal protective equipment (PPEs), bed nets to protect students from malaria as they sleep in school dormitories. We are guided by our strong belief that teaching-learning activities conducted under ruinous school building shall be a history. Our humanitarian actions which helped over 100 children to get access to the National Health Insurance Scheme and its membership card resulted in equitable healthcare service delivery. However, there is more to be done. We see children learning in classrooms and attending schools which are having extremely old buildings, and in a state of disrepair and are at the risk of collapse in most countries in Africa and Asia.

Children dying from preventable issues because of lack of maintenance culture, preventive measures, and immediate hazard must end. Join us to promote good hygiene and nutrition for children. We want to strengthen schools’ infirmaries to serve vulnerable children through training and the distribution of medical supplies, PPEs, medications and resources.

Health and safety are critical determinants for academic success and professional development. Our Healthcare, Wellness, and Safe School Environments (HEAL-WELL- SSE) program to children mitigate mortality and disease burden in vulnerable children affected by exclusion and poverty. We provide access to guidance, counseling, curative and preventative health and nutrition services.

We are enhancing our preparedness and response capabilities to effectively address disease outbreaks and epidemics caused by airborne pathogens (influenza, meningitis, measles, Ebola, Marburg), waterborne pathogens (cholera, AWD/ABD, poliomyelitis, typhoid, leptospirosis), and vector-borne pathogens (dengue fever, Zika, yellow fever, malaria, leishmaniasis).
